{"id":138391,"date":"2019-07-26T00:35:02","date_gmt":"2019-07-25T23:35:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=138391"},"modified":"2019-07-26T00:35:22","modified_gmt":"2019-07-25T23:35:22","slug":"nine-wayward-drivers-forfeit-vehicles-to-lagos-government","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=138391","title":{"rendered":"Nine \u2018Wayward\u2019 Drivers Forfeit Vehicles to Lagos Government"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span class=\"ds-1col file file-image file-image-jpeg view-mode-embedded centered clearfix block-story-object block-story-object-resource block-story-object-resource-image\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"block-story-object-asset\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"media-element file-embedded\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/Nine-\u2018Wayward\u2019-Drivers-Forfeit-Vehicles-to-Lagos-Government.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"container container-pod container-pod-short\"><span class=\"adunit-parent hide block-module block-module-ad block-module-ad-300x250\"><span class=\"block-module-image-wrapper\"><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A Lagos State Mobile Court has ordered the permanent forfeiture of nine vehicles confiscated from their owners for driving against traffic along Oshodi-Mile 2 expressway.<\/p>\n<p>This was disclosed in a statement released by Olayinka Egbeyemi, the Chairman of Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Task Force).<\/p>\n<p>Salau Omobola, the presiding magistrate, also ordered 20-hours of community service to the drivers of the vehicles.  <\/p>\n<p>The accused were arrested on Tuesday evening and arraigned on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>They pleaded guilty to the offence when the charge was read to them in court.  <\/p>\n<p>Egbeyemi said: \u201cThey ran into our enforcement team while we were returning from demolition exercise at Eric Moore and Orile-Iganmu along Lagos-Badagry Expressway on Tuesday evening.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He disclosed that residents and motorists had been complaining seriously about the activities of drivers moving against traffic and causing serious gridlock daily along the axis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHonestly speaking, it is painful that with a high level of enlightenment campaigns and several warnings by the government, motorists including private car owners can still be driving against traffic in such thereby blocking on-coming vehicles and causing standstill at Iyana-Isolo,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The chairman, however, advised the remaining 12 drivers who abandoned their vehicles and ran away to avoid arrest to immediately report to the agency for prosecution.\n <\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Lagos State Mobile Court has ordered the permanent forfeiture of nine vehicles confiscated from their owners for driving against traffic along Oshodi-Mile 2 expressway.
