{"id":136903,"date":"2019-07-19T14:11:37","date_gmt":"2019-07-19T13:11:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=136903"},"modified":"2019-07-19T14:13:14","modified_gmt":"2019-07-19T13:13:14","slug":"government-plans-to-issue-birth-certificates-for-cattle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=136903","title":{"rendered":"Government Plans To Issue Birth Certificates For Cattle"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span class=\"ds-1col file file-image file-image-jpeg view-mode-embedded centered clearfix block-story-object block-story-object-resource block-story-object-resource-image\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"block-story-object-asset\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"media-element file-embedded\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Police-Recover-61-Cows-Stranded-In-Kaduna.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"container container-pod container-pod-short\"><span class=\"adunit-parent hide block-module block-module-ad block-module-ad-300x250\"><span class=\"block-module-image-wrapper\"><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Plans have reached an advanced stage for the issuance of \u201cbirth certificates\u201d for the animals as well as registration of all farmers and their cattle by the Ugandan government.<\/p>\n<p>Ugandan Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries, Vincent Ssempijja, said the move became necessary to enable government trace where the products are coming from.<\/p>\n<p>Ssempijja explained that the international market demanded that all countries producing food for the European market needed to provide proof so that the food could be traced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey want to know where the meat and crop products are coming from.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have been impounding and banning all consignments from Uganda if they find one box with issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFarmers will be registered and their products given barcodes so that if they find a problem with one box, they look for the source and sort out the problem.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe cannot enter lucrative markets unless farmers register,\u201d he said at the official opening of the National Agricultural Show in Jinja, southern Uganda.<\/p>\n<p>Ssempijja added that all the cattle must be registered and given \u201cbirth certificates\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor cattle farmers, it is going to be worse.
