{"id":126235,"date":"2019-06-13T16:30:24","date_gmt":"2019-06-13T15:30:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=126235"},"modified":"2019-06-13T16:30:28","modified_gmt":"2019-06-13T15:30:28","slug":"borno-governor-recommends-suspension-of-42-teachers-for-absconding-from-duty-for-two-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=126235","title":{"rendered":"Borno Governor recommends suspension of 42 teachers for absconding from duty for two years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Inauguration-What-Zulum-said-during-his-swearing-in-as-Borno-governor.jpg\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State on Wednesday recommended the suspension of 42 primary school teachers for allegedly absconding from thier duty posts for two years in Gamborun Ngala local government area in the state.<\/p>\n<p>He made this known during the democracy day celebration at the Ramat Square in Maiduguri, NAN reports.<\/p>\n<p>He said that during his tour of primary schools in Gamborun Ngala, he discovered that 62 teachers were registered in the nominal role, whereas only eleven of them were present.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo my dismay, the head master said he has had only 11 teachers in the school in the last two years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThis is very obnoxious and i have directed the suspension of the 42 teachers who were not on ground,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Governor warned that he won\u2019t condone the culture of absenteeism, indolence, indiscipline and nepotism in the public service, noting that prudent management of public funds, transparency and accountability must be the guiding principles.<\/p>\n<p>Zulum said that proactive modalities would be put in place toward creating institutional framework for basic service delivery, to address the high public expectations aimed at strengthening the confidence of the people of the system.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will address the issues of security, poverty, unemployment, quality education, infrastructure, health services among other things that will positively impact on our lives. All these will invariably depend on good governance in a democracy,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>In his reaction, Jubril Muhammed, the Borno Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers(NUT), said the teachers\u2019 action was not deliberate act.<\/p>\n<p>Muhammed disclosed that teachers in the state usually worked on two-week shifts agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first set of teachers were deployed to librated councils while those that are subtituting them every two weeks are working in the Internally Displaced camps of the LGAs in the city of Maiduguri.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is not possible for all the teachers to be on ground at the same time because of the current challenges. We also lack adequate teachers to carter for the educational services in both the LGAs and IDPs camps at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlso, most of our teachers have lost everything including thier means of livelihood, citing lack of accomodation in the LGAs as another challenge,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Chairman urged the governor to tamper justice with mercy on his decision.\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State on Wednesday recommended the suspension of 42 primary school teachers for allegedly absconding from thier duty posts for two years in Gamborun Ngala local government area in the state.
