{"id":125180,"date":"2019-06-10T17:11:49","date_gmt":"2019-06-10T16:11:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=125180"},"modified":"2019-06-10T18:29:00","modified_gmt":"2019-06-10T17:29:00","slug":"corruption-ill-surrender-my-immunity-if-found-guilty-says-new-oyo-state-governor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=125180","title":{"rendered":"Corruption: I\u2019ll Surrender My Immunity If Found Guilty, Says New Oyo State Governor"},"content":{"rendered":"<div><span class=\"ds-1col file file-image file-image-jpeg view-mode-embedded centered clearfix block-story-object block-story-object-resource block-story-object-resource-image\"><br \/>\n<span class=\"block-story-object-asset\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"media-element file-embedded\" typeof=\"foaf:Image\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Corruption-I\u2019ll-Surrender-My-Immunity-If-Found-Guilty-Says-New-Oyo-State-Governor.jpg\" alt=\"\"><\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"container container-pod container-pod-short\"><span class=\"adunit-parent hide block-module block-module-ad block-module-ad-300x250\"><span class=\"block-module-image-wrapper\"><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State says his administration will soon establish an anti-corruption agency in the state and that he is ready to give up his immunity if found guilty of any corrupt practices.<\/p>\n<p>A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, quoted the governor as saying this on Sunday during a two-day induction programme organised for members-elect of the 9th Oyo State House of Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>He said the plan for the establishment of the agency was part of his administration\u2019s readiness to fight graft.<\/p>\n<p>He disclosed that the lawmakers would get a bill seeking to establish the Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency immediately after the inauguration.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, when the agency is established, it will be empowered to beam its searchlight on individuals and government institutions in the state.<\/p>\n<p>Makinde expressed readiness to waive his immunity and appear before the agency if found wanting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe first Executive Bill we are bringing to you is for us to set up an Anti-Corruption Agency for Oyo State. And I will waive my immunity, if I am found not to be above board, to face that agency,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>The governor also promised to work with the state assembly to guarantee financial autonomy to local government administration.<\/p>\n<p>On security, Makinde said his government was determined to make the state one of the safest in the country by coming up with measures to tame insecurity.<\/p>\n<p>He disclosed that his government already had a blueprint on the security sector, adding that his colleagues in the South\/West were also working in the same direction.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the decision to proscribe the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) a few days after taking office was borne out of the resolve to ensure that the state was not held to ransom by a few individuals.<\/p>\n<p>He implored the members-elect to work towards a cordial relationship with the executive.<\/p>\n<p>Makinde disclosed that his administration had four major areas to focus on, which included economy, agriculture, poverty alleviation and infrastructure development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to expand our economy and lift as many of our people as possible out of poverty.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to use agriculture to expand the economy.
