{"id":124566,"date":"2019-06-08T05:31:56","date_gmt":"2019-06-08T04:31:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=124566"},"modified":"2019-06-08T05:32:35","modified_gmt":"2019-06-08T04:32:35","slug":"nafdac-uncovers-clamps-down-on-fake-honey-factory-in-abuja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=124566","title":{"rendered":"NAFDAC uncovers, clamps down on fake honey factory in Abuja"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/NAFDAC-uncovers-clamps-down-on-Abuja-fake-honey-factory.jpg\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down a fake honey manufacturing facility which packaged honey under poor hygiene in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>NAFDAC\u2019s Director-General, Prof. Moji Adeyeye, in a statement said the action was carried out based on information on social media which indicated that the product, produced by \u201dUpon the Rock Church of God\u201d, Durumi, Abuja was adulterated.<\/p>\n<p>According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Adeyeye said NAFDAC officials carried out a raid on the facility in Abuja where honey was being packaged.<\/p>\n<p>She said, \u201dWe acted based on information (video) of honey purchased from a certain supermarket in Abuja, circulated on social media by a customer alleging that the product was adulterated\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201dThe product was produced by Upon the Rock Church of God, Durumi, Abuja\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The director said that, tests on the product, which was initially registered with NAFDAC, confirmed that the product had become unwholesome and unfit for consumption.<\/p>\n<p>She said \u201dInvestigations revealed that the company registered \u2018Upon the Rock Honey\u2019 with NAFDAC in December 2018 upon assurance that NAFDAC\u2019s quality standards were met through proper testing and inspection.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dBut thereafter, the company started producing under poor hygiene. The facility also added some unregistered variants of the product that were never presented to NAFDAC\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201dSome of the products were found to have fake NAFDAC registration numbers printed on them\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201dSeveral samples of the products have been analysed and the reports showed that many of the products were unsatisfactory and may pose danger to health\u201d.<br \/>\nShe assured that NAFDAC had ordered a recall of the products and applied appropriate sanctions on the company.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dFurther stringent measures are still being taken to ensure that the company complies with relevant NAFDAC regulations and guidelines if it wants to continue in the business.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dNAFDAC wishes to reassure the general public that all efforts are continually being made to assure the safety, quality and wholesomeness of processed foods through regular routine monitoring of production and distribution facilities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>This, she said, is to ensure that they operate in accordance with the requirements of good manufacturing practice, good storage practices and good distribution practices\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down a fake honey manufacturing facility which packaged honey under poor hygiene in Abuja.
