John Ikeji, a 40-year-old man, was remanded in prison for allegedly defiling a six-year-old girl in Lagos.<\/p>\n

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat, an Ikeja Chief Magistrate, who did not take the plea of the defendant, on Friday ordered that the defendant be remanded in Kirikiri Prison.<\/p>\n

Sule-Amzat ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.<\/p>\n

The defendant, who resides at Ijegun area of Satellite Town, Lagos, is facing a charge of defilement.<\/p>\n

The prosecution counsel, ASP Benson Emuerhi, had earlier told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 5, at Satellite Town.<\/p>\n

Emuerhi alleged that the defendant unlawfully defiled the girl by forcefully having sexual intercourse with her.<\/p>\n

He said the defendant was apprehended by the police and the case was referred to the Gender Section at Ikeja Police Command for further investigation.<\/p>\n

Emuerhi said that the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.<\/p>\n
