{"id":119650,"date":"2019-05-22T20:26:17","date_gmt":"2019-05-22T19:26:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=119650"},"modified":"2019-05-22T20:26:45","modified_gmt":"2019-05-22T19:26:45","slug":"oronsayes-alleged-2bn-fraud-how-unspecified-amounts-were-transferred-into-contingency-account-witness","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=119650","title":{"rendered":"Oronsaye&#8217;s alleged 2bn fraud: How unspecified amounts were transferred into &#8216;contingency account&#8217; &#8211; Witness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/05\/Oronsayes-alleged-2bn-fraud-How-unspecified-amounts-were-transferred-into-contingency-account-Witness.jpg\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Ms Chidinma Okpocha, a witness in the trial of Steven Oronsaye, former Head of Service (HOS) said on Wednesday in the Federal High Court Abuja, that unspecified amounts, were transferred into a contingency account domiciled in Unity bank.<\/p>\n<p>Oronsaye is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on offences bordering on stealing and obtaining money by false pretence.<\/p>\n<p>He is alleged to have been complicit in several contract awards during his tenure as HoS, and is being charged along with Osarenkhoe Afe on an amended 35-count charge.<\/p>\n<p>They had taken a plea of \u201cnot guilty\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Okpocha, a relationship officer with Unity bank and the Economic and Financial Crimes\u2019 (EFCC) prosecution witness number five, said that these funds came from the Pension Transfer Fund.<\/p>\n<p>The witness said this during cross-examination by Oronsaye\u2019s counsel, Mr Okeanya-Ineh, SAN, that she wasn\u2019t familiar with the history of the account.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dIt is a government account and the only signatory I know is the HOS,\u201d she alleged..<\/p>\n<p>Prior to all these, she was handed a document by Okeanya-Ineh to read in part titled: \u201cApproval For Transfer Of Funds To Contingent Account From The Office Of The Head Of Service Of The Federation.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The document was later tendered in court by the defence and admitted into evidence.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, the witness was led in evidence by the EFCC prosecution Mr Oluwaleke Atolagbe, who tendered Unity bank\u2019s 46 pages documents marked as PW 5(a) and admitted into evidence.<\/p>\n<p>The witness had narrated how financial transactions occurred in various pages of the document in mainly 2009 and 2010.<\/p>\n<p>She narrated how monies were paid to some people through cheques and cash withdrawals running into millions of naira.<\/p>\n<p>The witness also explained during examination in chief, how page 20 of the document showed when Oronsaye made a change in the signatory to one of the accounts under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>The signatory to one of the accounts was changed from Sadiq Mohammed to Stephen Oronsaye , dated Nov. 22, 1999.<\/p>\n<p>She said that the implication of this was that from that date the signatory became that of Oronsaye.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Inyang Ekwo adjourned hearing in continuation of the examination until May 23.\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ms Chidinma Okpocha, a witness in the trial of Steven Oronsaye, former Head of Service (HOS) said on Wednesday in the Federal High Court Abuja, that unspecified amounts, were transferred into a contingency account domiciled in Unity bank.
