{"id":116952,"date":"2019-05-14T10:37:20","date_gmt":"2019-05-14T09:37:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=116952"},"modified":"2019-05-14T10:51:44","modified_gmt":"2019-05-14T09:51:44","slug":"ignore-senate-abuja-kaduna-highway-now-safe-for-travellers-el-rufai-tells-nigerians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=116952","title":{"rendered":"Ignore Senate, Abuja-Kaduna Highway now safe for travellers &#8211; El-Rufai tells Nigerians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Government-speaks-on-rumoured-attack-in-Kaduna.jpg\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has dismissed the assertion by the Nigerian Senate that the Abuja-Kaduna highway is the most dangerous roads in the country, saying that the road is now safe for travellers.<\/p>\n<p>El-Rufai stated this when he addressed State House correspondents after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate had on May 8 described the Abuja-Kaduna highway as the most dangerous road in Africa due to the activities of kidnappers and armed bandits operating on the expressway.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Shehu Sani, representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, had, while contributing to a motion on \u201cUrgent need to increase the number of coaches on the Abuja-Kaduna railway line\u201d labeled the aforementioned highway as one of the most dangerous in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>In his contribution, Sen. James Manager countered, saying that the highway was not one of the most dangerous but the most dangerous road in Africa.<\/p>\n<p>However, reacting El-Rufai said: \u201cIf you believe everything that comes out of the Nigeria\u2019s Senate you will have serious mental health problems.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are things that I said there that are just for the gallery, for the media. I don\u2019t know what statistics that were used to determine that the Abuja-Kaduna road is the most dangerous road anywhere \u2013 I like fact; I like using figures, I wish the people that said that would produce figures.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m saying that no matter what anybody said last week, I\u2019m assuring Nigerians that the Abuja\u2013Kaduna road is quite safe now and will be so following the measures put in place by the various security agencies.<\/p>\n<p>The governor, who said that he was not assuring absolute safety for travellers plying the road, maintained that only God can guarantee total safety.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I\u2019m saying, as the governor of the state, based on the security measures put in place, I\u2019m confident that the road is safe, and I drive on that road,\u2019\u2019 NAN quoted him as saying.\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State has dismissed the assertion by the Nigerian Senate that the Abuja-Kaduna highway is the most dangerous roads in the country, saying that the road is now safe for travellers.
