{"id":115132,"date":"2019-05-08T22:43:12","date_gmt":"2019-05-08T21:43:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=115132"},"modified":"2019-05-08T22:43:34","modified_gmt":"2019-05-08T21:43:34","slug":"osun-2018-anxiety-apprehension-as-appeal-court-delivers-judgement-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=115132","title":{"rendered":"Osun 2018: Anxiety, apprehension as Appeal Court delivers judgement Thursday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Offa-Robbery-Medical-expert-reveals-details-of-injuries-on-suspects.jpg\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">There is a high level of anxiety amongst political gladiators in Osun State, as Appeal Court sitting in Abuja will on Thursday, May 9, 2019, deliver judgement on the Osun State governorship election matter before it.<\/p>\n<p>DAILY POST reports that the incumbent governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, who was the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, in the September 22 governorship poll, had filed an appeal before the court following March 22 judgement of the election petition tribunal, which sacked him from the office.<\/p>\n<p>The majority judgement of the Tribunal had declared the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ademola Adeleke, winner of the poll, while maintaining that the September 27 rerun election was null and void.<\/p>\n<p>Oyetola, in his appeal thereafter prayed the court to upturn the judgement, citing certain legal loopholes.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the notification for judgement on the appeal was communicated to the parties Wednesday morning by the Senior Registrar of the court, making it a 24-hour notice.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking with DAILY POST on Wednesday afternoon in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Gboyega Oyetola, Mr Adeniyi Adesina expressed optimism of victory.<\/p>\n<p>\u201d We are confident that the judgement will favour us based on the merit of our appeal in the face of law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not apprehensive of anything, no cause for alarm, we are more than confident that the honourable judges will do justice without fair or favour,\u201d Adesina said.<\/p>\n<p>However, DAILY Post that there was profound apprehension in the camps of both parties when the news of tomorrow judgment at the appeal court filtered into town.<\/p>\n<p>A reliable source within the ruling party, which craved anonymity, said the news came as a big surprise to its party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are indeed taken by surprise with the news, many of us were not expecting it so fast, it really unsettled many of our leaders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the same, we are confident of victory going by the quality of arguments before the court by our legal team, I see light after the tunnel\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>In another reaction, a chieftain of PDP in the state, Prince Saka Mabro<\/p>\n<p>described APC\u2019s government in the state as \u2018ephemeral \u2018 adding that it\u2019s days are numbered.<br \/>\nHe opined that the last gubernatorial election in the state was a \u201cpolitical caricature \u201d which would never hold.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, Osun State, after the election became \u201ca reference point for electoral fraud \u201d which in his words brought great odium to the state amongst the federating units.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis party called APC comprises of people with no toga of shame, it is indeed a conglomerate of shameless characters without conscience.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow could they be expecting anything other than legal disgrace, the case is clear, it is a case of broad day robbery, and violent rape of democracy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201d It is victory all the way for my party tomorrow, the PDP will surely carry the day, mark my words, \u201d Mabro boasted.\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There is a high level of anxiety amongst political gladiators in Osun State, as Appeal Court sitting in Abuja will on Thursday, May 9, 2019, deliver judgement on the Osun State governorship election matter before it.
