Russia has said it has no plans to ground its fleet of Sukhoi Superjet 100s after one of the planes burst into flames on landing.<\/p>\n

Some 41 people were killed when the fire broke out after the jet made an emergency landing at Sheremetyevo International Airport, north of Moscow.<\/p>\n

A criminal investigation has been launched into Sunday’s incident.<\/p>\n

Video taken of the Aeroflot plane’s emergency landing showed it rebound on landing and the tail end engulfed in flames.<\/p>\n

When the jet finally came to a stop, an inflatable evacuation slide was deployed and passengers leaped out.<\/p>\n

It is understood that 73 passengers were on board the aircraft, with five crew.<\/p>\n

Aeroflot said the plane had been forced to turn back shortly after take off, blaming “technical reasons”.<\/p>\n

The plane had not long taken off when the fire broke out<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n

One crew member and at least two teenagers were among the dead, according to Russia’s investigative committee.<\/p>\n

According to Interfax, the plane – which had been bound for the northern city of Murmansk – had tanks full of fuel when it made its landing just 20 minutes after taking off.<\/p>\n

The plane was said to have bumped the runway three times, causing fuel from the tanks to spill and flare, engulfing the back of the main body of the aircraft in flames.<\/p>\n

The SSJ-100 is largely used in Russia as a replacement for outdated Soviet-era aircraft, but is also used by airlines in other countries, including Armenia and Mexico.<\/p>\n

It has been involved in a fatal accident once before, in 2012, when a demonstration flight in Indonesia struck a mountain, killing all 45 aboard.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
