<\/p>\nSolskjaer admitted that they have themselves to blame.<\/p>\n
United drew 1-1 with relegated Huddersfield on Sunday, which saw them miss out on a top-four place and the Champions League next season.<\/p>\n
It is the third time in six years United have failed to make the Champions League after-Sir Alex Ferguson\u2019s departure as the club\u2019s manager.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe gave ourselves a chance to be in the Champions League, had so many opportunities to be third or fourth, but weren\u2019t able to do it,\u201d Solskjaer told Sky Sports.<\/p>\n
\u201cMaybe it\u2019s the right place to be for us, the Europa League next year.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf City don\u2019t win FA Cup we\u2019ll have an early and bright start for EL qualifiers and that\u2019ll make it more diff.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve been inconsistent throughout this season, good periods and very bad periods, and it\u2019s just caught up with us. It\u2019s a fair reflection, being sixth.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s been a tired team towards the end of the season. When you get bad results you lose energy and start worrying and that\u2019s caught up with us.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not what we want, but then again you can use the Europa League as something positive, as Chelsea and Arsenal have done and as we did a couple of years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n
Alexis Sanchez went off injured in the second-half and Solskjaer was asked if that was the \u00a3500,000-a-week forward\u2019s last appearance in a United shirt.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t talk about individuals now, but there\u2019s a chance you\u2019ve seen the last of players, always a chance, but wouldn\u2019t say that about any individual,\u201d said Solskjaer.<\/p>\n
\u201cToday wasn\u2019t one individual that was disappointing, it was the whole team.\u201d<\/p>\n
Scott McTominay put United ahead after eight minutes, but a mistake by Luke Shaw allowed Isaac Mbenza to equalise, with Solskjaer\u2019s side unable to find a winner.<\/p>\n
Former United defender Gary Neville was scathing in his assessment of his old club and said: \u201cThis is Huddersfield Town who have struggled all season.<\/p>\n
\u201cWatching this Huddersfield team, they haven\u2019t got the quality, but I like watching them a lot more than watching the ones in the red shirts, to be honest with you.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt least you can identify with them. Nothing about this United team I like at all. They\u2019re just awful.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019re a despondent group of people. Solskjaer is smiling at them they\u2019re that bad.<\/p>\n
\u201cUnited\u2019s away support will never stop singing, but this group of players have drained the energy out of them.\u201d<\/p>\n
Solskjaer added: \u201cWe haven\u2019t taken enough points, won enough games, scored enough goals and it\u2019s always difficult when you lose your manager halfway through the season.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt shows us where we are. we\u2019re not living in fantasy land thinking we can catch the top two, we\u2019re far away, but we shouldn\u2019t be speaking about being far off the top four at Manchester United.<\/p>\n
