Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville, has said that the club is being hunted by a defensive transfer mistake it made in 2015.<\/p>\n

Neville pointed out that Brazilian defender Rafael Da Silva was \u2018perfect\u2019 for United and questioned former manager, Louis van Gaal\u2019s decision to sell him.<\/p>\n

Rafael joined United in 2008 from Fluminense and was sold to Lyon in 2015 by Van Gaal having fallen out of favour at the club.<\/p>\n

But Neville, who was Man United\u2019s first choice right-back for years under Alex Ferguson, noted that the club should have kept hold of Rafael.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought when I left that Rafael Da Silva was perfect as a Manchester United full-back,\u201d he told Sky Sports.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was tenacious, aggressive, decent on the ball, and he was sold. Maybe rightly so, I\u2019m not sure.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t know why United have had such problems at right-back. You can\u2019t keep signing full-backs for \u00a315m. Over the past few years they\u2019ve spent nearly \u00a3100m on five full-backs.<\/p>\n

\u201cCity spent big on Kyle Walker, Danilo and Benjamin Mendy.<\/p>\n

\u201cMaybe United would be better buying the correct full-back first time up for \u00a340m or \u00a350m and have them for seven years, because it\u2019s cost them that much in the end trying different full-backs.\u201d\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
