{"id":111435,"date":"2019-04-27T17:36:41","date_gmt":"2019-04-27T16:36:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=111435"},"modified":"2019-04-27T17:36:55","modified_gmt":"2019-04-27T16:36:55","slug":"killer-beheaded-inmate-and-removed-his-body-parts-in-prison-cell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=111435","title":{"rendered":"Killer &#8216;beheaded inmate and removed his body parts&#8217; in prison cell"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-component-name=\"sdc-article-body\">A convicted killer beheaded another murderer in their prison cell and removed several of his body parts in a &#8220;sadistic&#8221; attack, it is alleged.<\/p>\n<p>Jaime Osuna, 31, is accused of repeatedly cutting Luis Romero with a sharp object wrapped in string and attached to a handle at a jail in California.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities believe the victim was alive for at least part of the attack which district attorney Phil Esbenshade described as the &#8220;most gruesome case&#8221; he had ever seen &#8220;in terms of heinousness in the slaying&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Romero, 44, was found dead in his cell by guards at Corcoran state prison near Sacramento on 9 March.<\/p>\n<p>He had bled to death from &#8220;multiple sharp force trauma injuries&#8221; and his body was mutilated, according to a post-mortem examination.<\/p>\n<p>Osuna has been charged with murder, torture, mayhem and weapons possession.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sdc-article-widget sdc-article-image\">\n<figure class=\"sdc-article-image__figure\" itemprop=\"associatedMedia image\" itemscope itemtype=\"http:\/\/schema.org\/ImageObject\">\n<div class=\"sdc-article-image__wrapper\" data-aspect-ratio=\"16\/9\">\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"sdc-article-image__item\" src=\"https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/19\/04\/768x432\/skynews-corcoran-state-prison_4651643.jpg?20190427120748\" srcset=\"https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/19\/04\/384x216\/skynews-corcoran-state-prison_4651643.jpg?20190427120748 380w, https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/19\/04\/768x432\/skynews-corcoran-state-prison_4651643.jpg?20190427120748 760w, https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/19\/04\/1600x900\/skynews-corcoran-state-prison_4651643.jpg?20190427120748 1024w, https:\/\/e3.365dm.com\/19\/04\/2048x1152\/skynews-corcoran-state-prison_4651643.jpg?20190427120748 2048w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 1024px) 1024px, 100vw\" alt=\"Corcoran state prison\"><\/p>\n<\/div><figcaption class=\"sdc-article-image__caption\" itemprop=\"caption description\"><span class=\"sdc-article-image__caption-text\">The murder took place in a cell at Corcoran state prison<\/span><\/figcaption>The torture charge alleges he acted &#8220;with the intent to cause cruel and extreme pain and suffering for the purpose of revenge, extortion, persuasion and for a sadistic purpose&#8221;.<\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p>Osuna could face the death penalty as the killing &#8220;was especially heinous, atrocious, or cruel, manifesting exceptional depravity&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>He has appeared in court and has denied murder and other charges.<\/p>\n<p>An investigation by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation is under way.<\/p>\n<p>Osuna has now been transferred to a prison in Stockton for inmates needing medical or mental health care, but officials have not revealed the reason for the move, citing privacy laws.<\/p>\n<p>He was reportedly sentenced to life without parole after pleading guilty in 2017 to killing 37-year-old Yvette Pena at a Bakersfield motel in 2011.<\/p>\n<p>Romero also was serving a life term for a Los Angeles County killing, but with the possibility of parole.<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A convicted killer beheaded another murderer in their prison cell and removed several of his body parts in a &#8220;sadistic&#8221; attack, it is alleged.
