{"id":108687,"date":"2019-04-19T10:05:17","date_gmt":"2019-04-19T09:05:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=108687"},"modified":"2019-04-19T10:05:28","modified_gmt":"2019-04-19T09:05:28","slug":"kwara-house-of-assembly-rejects-transition-committee-gives-reason","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/arewa.ng\/?p=108687","title":{"rendered":"Kwara House of Assembly rejects Transition committee, gives reason"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/arewa.ng\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Kwara-House-of-Assembly-rejects-Transition-committee-gives-reason.jpeg\"><\/p>\n<div id=\"mvp-content-main\">Kwara State House of Assembly has rejected the request of the Transition Committee set up by the state Governor-elect, Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, for a handover note on the activities of the Assembly.<\/p>\n<p>The House on Thursday refused the request in its resolution after a two-day debate on a letter of request sent to it by the committee, NAN reports.<\/p>\n<p>The Speaker, Dr Ali Ahmad, while reading the resolution, said the request for handover note of the House to the committee did not conform with democratic tenets.<\/p>\n<p>Ahmad described the committee\u2019s request as \u201canomalous\u201d as it amounted to setting bad precedent for the incoming lawmakers in the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Kwara State House of Assembly noted that the letter from the representatives of the incoming executive requesting for handover note or brief from the Assembly was anomalous,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The speaker said that the autonomy of the legislature must be guarded, adding that to accede to the request of the transition committee would \u201ckill the independence of the legislature\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, during debate, the members unanimously condemned the series of letters from the transition committee requesting the House to furnish it with the handover note.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kwara State House of Assembly has rejected the request of the Transition Committee set up by the state Governor-elect, Alhaji AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq, for a handover note on the activities of the Assembly.
