The camp of former governor of Kano, Rabiu Kawankwaso has spoken on the impeachment of Speaker of the House of Assembly, Yusuf Atta.

On Monday, 27 out of 40 members of the Kano legislature signed the impeachment notice to remove Atta, representing Fagge Local Government constituency.

Kabiru Alhassan Rurum was immediately elected as his replacement.

Reacting, Aminu Abdulslam, a close associate of Senator Kwankwaso, hinted that the development might be political.

“What happpened is an Assembly matter. But in view of the times we’ve found ourselves, it is likely to have a political colouration”, he told DAILY POST.

“Whatever led to the impeachment. I have not got the details. But it is likely to affect the political temperature of the state.

“Currently, there is so much discontent in House, people are complaining that they are not being carried along. Well, they decided to change and they have changed,” he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Abdullahi Ganduje has denied involvement in the change of leadership.

Speaking when he received Rurum at the Government House, Ganduje urged him to carry everybody along and avoid anything that could hamper the success of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the 2019 elections.

“I had no knowledge about what happened in the House of Assembly. It was later I started receiving several phone calls informing me about the development.

“I worked with assembly for 8 years as a deputy governor and 3 years as a governor, so I know how the events of Assembly are.

“Nevertheless, I congratulate the beneficiaries leadership and urge the Speaker to carry everybody along in order to tame factions that would affect the success of our great party in 2019.

“I am happy that you express your 100% support to our president, Muhammadu Buhari and his candidature in 2019. I am happy about this statement,” he noted.
