EPL: Why Van Gaal failed to sign Lewandowski for Manchester United

[ad_1]

Louis van Gaal has revealed that he tried to sign Robert Lewandowski from Bayern Munich, when he was manager of Manchester United.

Van Gaal brought in Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Angel Di Maria, Daley Blind, Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin and Anthony Martial in a £250million cash splash during his spell at Old Trafford.

However, he failed to add Lewandowski to that list.

Van Gaal says he and United were happy to splash big on the Poland striker, but Bayern weren’t keen to sell.

“He is currently the best striker in the world. I also wanted to train Lewandowski and wanted to bring him to Manchester United.

“The price was not a problem for Manchester United, but Bayern did not want to let him go,” Van Gaal told Bild.

Van Gaal has also claimed many of his United players were not “professional” during his time at the side
