Ramsey’s future at Emirates remains uncertain with the Wales international currently in the final year of his contract at the club, forcing Arsenal to look at potential replacements for the long-serving midfielder.
However, The Mirror UK reports that the Gunners were planning to return for Banega in January transfer window and were willing to trigger his £18million release clause in order to secure his services.
The report claimed that the Argentina international would be available on a free transfer next summer, but Arsenal were willing to beat any other club that will be interested in the 30-year-old by signing him in January.
Banega, who previously worked with Arsenal manager, Unai Emery during his time at Sevilla, was linked with a move to the North London club this summer, only to remain in La Liga.
