Elections postponement: What INEC only did for PDP – APC chieftain, Eze

Chief Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, former spokesman of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP, has described the postponement of Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections as mere delay of the formal demise and burial of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Nigeria.

Eze, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Rivers State, made the declaration in a statement made available to DAILY POST in Port Harcourt on Monday.

He also charged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to ensure that all steps are taken to ensure that APC candidates in Rivers and Zamfara states are listed on the ballots for the elections before this Wednesday.

According to him, “Not minding the condemnation trailing INEC for postponing the polls, if the reasons of logistics, litigations, burning of some INEC materials at Plateau, Abia and Anambra, as well as recent discovery of more than 50 million thumb-printed ballot papers under PDP boxes in some states and other plots to undermine and rig the elections in favour of a particular political party known for rigging elections in the past are considered then INEC needs to be commended for postponing the elections instead of being condemned.”

Eze advised INEC to utilise the window created by the postponement to ensure a more credible, free and fair elections come February 23 and March 9th, 2019 “to shame all the undemocratic forces wanting to undermine the unity and progress of our nation”.

He said the postponement had given INEC enough time to ensure that both Rivers and Zamfara states chapters of the APC were reflected on the ballot papers, and urged Nigerians to continue to keep faith with the INEC and to “come out en masse next Saturday and ensure that the plots to rig out the administration of President Buhari don’t come to pass to install the looting machine of PDP again in our life time.”

“Lastly, let me concur with the position of the Director, Strategic Communications, APC Presidential Campaign Council, Festus Keyamo, SAN that INEC and the world should observe that the PDP has clearly and openly said it plans to announce parallel results through some funny device it has procured or developed.

“APC as a political party re-iterated that it is ONLY INEC that is legally and constitutionally empowered to declare results and it constitutes an offence for anyone to do so.

“We urge INEC to speak up now and warn the PDP to desist from this ignoble act that is capable of plunging the nation into a crises of immeasurable proportions,” the statement read.
