Disruption of ECA summit: Ohanaeze blasts Eliot Ukoh

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council, OYC, Wednesday, came hard on the leadership of the Eastern Consultative Assembly, ECA, over the botched summit organized by the group in Enugu on Tuesday.

DAILY POST recalls that things went sour at the event when one of the Igbo elders, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi started talking about the need to restructure Nigeria.

Feeling disappointed, Biafra agitators, who were invited to the event in their numbers, began to interrupt him, saying that they did not want to hear anything about Nigeria.

Hell was let loose when Ugochukwu- Ukor announced that it was time to give a post-humous award to Dr. Azikiwe for his contributions towards national development.

As soon as Zik’s name was mentioned, the Biafran agitators rose in condemnation of Zik’s efforts to keep the country united, just as they blamed the late nationalist for the current travails of the Igbo in the country.

As the crowd became restive, Ugochukwu-Uko threatened to deal with any trouble maker in the hall but his utterances angered the agitators the more and they descended on the people on the high table and in the commotion that ensued, they removed Prof Amucheazi’s red cap from his head and his eye glasses.

Some of the leaders ran helter-skelter as their cars were stoned leading to the shattering of the wind shields.

Apparently, not satisfied with scattering the event, the mob chased journalists out of the venue before moving to the streets of Enugu metropolis, where they blocked roads, displaying the photographs of their leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

However, as they were matching, the police confronted them in front of the Presidential Hotel, by firing tears gas canisters on them. Eleven of them were later arrested.

Reacting to the development, the OYC said it was a well orchestrated attempt by Eliot and his group to destabilize the relative peace in Enugu State.

The Ohanaeze Youths in a statement signed by Mazi Okwu Nnabuike and Engr Obinna Adibe (Secretary General and National PRO respectively, said it was also unacceptable for Eliot to hide under any guise to bring respected Igbo elders to such a place where they would be so humiliated.

“We read with shock the ugly incident which played out yesterday in Enugu State. We are saddened because this is coming at a time Enugu is being so celebrated as one of the most peaceful State in the country.

“Going by our investigations, the youths Eliot and his amorphous group gathered together at the event were transported from several States outside Enugu. At the end, they ended up creating tension in the very peaceful and secure State.

“We want to say it clearly that this is unacceptable to us because this is a deliberate ploy to destroy the good works of the amiable and hardworking Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, especially in the area of security.

“This is therefore, a warning to Eliot that he shall be held responsible for any breakdown of law and order in the Coal City State. This is so as he clearly admitted in his media interview that indeed he invited the Biafran agitators to the event. So, everything that happened was clearly planned.

“It is also clear from what happened that the youths of Igbo land loss confidence on Igbo Elders who have failed to speak the Truth to igbo youths. How else could one describe such an attack on men with grey hairs?

“Most of these leaders have failed and that is why the Ohanaeze Youths is working assiduously to provide a new sense of direction for our people.

“We will continue to dialogue with Biafran agitators on the way on how to deal with these elders as any gathering in Igbo Land without proper inclusion of igbo youths will bring catastrophic end of such events.

“We warn that revolution is near in South East ahead of 2019, as nobody will speak for our people without Ohanaeze Youth Council led by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro and the leadership of Biafra agitators‎,” the OYC said.
