Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother, Maria Dolores Aveiro has revealed that she never wanted her son to return to Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
Ronaldo left Madrid as their all-time leading scorer with 451 goals in 438 games, nine years after he joined from Manchester United for a then-world record transfer fee of £80m.
The 33-year-old was officially unveiled as Juventus player on Monday.
Ronaldo’s mother, however, said her son needed another challenge and that was why he joined the Turin club.
Aveiro also said that she was happy with Ronaldo’s choice.
“It’s a lie that I wanted him to return to Manchester United, it’s just not true,” Maria Dolores Aveiro told Record.
“I’m very happy with his choice. It’s a very happy day for all of us. My son will make Juve even bigger.
“This is a new adventure and a new life. He enjoyed it at Real Madrid but he needed other challenges.”
