Champions League: Liverpool vs Manchester City: Team news, injuries, possible lineups

[ad_1]

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool will on Wednesday night clash with Manchester City at Anfield in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals match.

Klopp’s men are the only team that defeated City in the Premier League this season with a remarkable 4-3 victory in January, but will be aware of the need to build a firm first-leg advantage on home soil.

The Reds will hope to beat Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City after defeating Crystal Palace 2-1 in an away Premier League clash at the weekend.

Liverpool hopes to welcome midfielder, Emre Can, who missed Palace clash on Sunday due to back injury.

Joe Gomez (ankle) is expected to miss the game and the extent of Adam Lallana’s hamstring injury is yet to be determined.

Klopp needs to choose between Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip at centre-back as partner for Virgil van Dijk.

Meanwhile, Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City heads into the clash in form after defeating Everton 3-1 in an away Premier League fixture at the weekend.

Guardiola’s men currently sit on number 1 position with 84 points from 31 games.

Benjamin Mendy is having a knee injury and is doubtful to play against Liverpool.

Aymeric Laporte played left-back against Everton.

John Stones (head), Fabian Delph (knock) and Sergio Aguero (knee) are all in contention to return for City.

Liverpool potential starting XI:

Karius; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Milner; Wijnaldum, Henderson, Can; Salah, Firmino, Mane

Manchester City potential starting XI:

Ederson; Walker, Otamendi, Kompany, Danilo; De Bruyne, Fernandinho, Silva; Sterling, Jesus, Sane.

The kick off time for the match is schedule at 7:45pm.
