Real Madrid manager, Zinedine Zidane, has publicly backed Karim Benzema, with the striker set to stand trial on the charge of conspiracy to attempt blackmail.
Versailles prosecutor’s office is accusing Benzema of having pressured his former France teammate Mathieu Valbuena in 2015, to pay blackmailers who threatened to reveal a sex tape in which Valbuena appeared.
“He [Benzema] has my complete support. I know it’s not an easy situation. The important thing is what I see and he is well.
“These are difficult situations, and we want it to be resolved as soon as possible,” Zidane told a press conference.
No date has been set for the trial.
Benzema has not played for France since October 2015 after being suspended by the French Football Federation (FFF) over his alleged involvement in the incident.
