Anambra community moves against new monarch recognised by Gov Obiano

Indigenes of Ochuche Umuodu community in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State have vowed to take laws into their hands to ensure that their new monarch, Igwe Osita Ijoma does not reign over them.

The indigenes who were protested to the Anambra State government house on Thursday to register their displeasure over the ascension of the traditional throne of the community by Ijoma, said he was not the rightful candidate for the throne.

The protesters numbering over 100 who stormed the Anambra State government house with placards called on the governor to avert crisis in the community by withdrawing the certificate of recognition earlier issued to Ijoma as the community had unanimously settled for Prince Stephen Akpati, a medical doctor, who they said hailed from a royal family.

Spokesperson of the protesters, Chief Frederick Aniche who addressed journalists during the protest, said, “Osita Ijoma is a stranger in our community. He is not from a royal family, and has no right to claim the throne of the monarch.

“We are calling on Governor Obiano to immediately rescind the decision of making him our traditional ruler, by withdrawing his certificate of recognition and issuing it to Akpati who is the duly selected candidate for the throne.

“Failure to do that, we will take laws into our hands and stop Ijoma from acting, or we will stop him from doing so, and restrict him from reigning over us, and he will be the monarch of his family and not for us,” Aniche said.

Addressing the protesters, Mr Gerald Akaeze, Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano on Local Government affairs thanked the people for not involving in violence.

He told the protesters that the governor was presently out of the country and that he is a peace loving person and would not hesitate to address the matter to ensure peace in the community upon return.
