The Zimbabwe Premier Soccer League has suspended Match Day 21 fixtures which were scheduled for this weekend.

This comes amid tension in the South African country, over disputed parliamentary and presidential elections.

On Wednesday, six people were killed, following violent clashes between supporters of the opposition MDC Alliance party and security forces on the streets of Harare.

Football was expected to resume across Zimbabwe this weekend, after the national elections, but the PSL has now issued a statement announcing otherwise.

There was no indication of when action would resume, with the PSL only saying it will “advise on the rescheduled dates in due notice”.

The statement added that, “There would be no further comments on this matter.”
