The Abia State chapter of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, has assured its leaders and stakeholders that it will not condone any form of imposition of candidates on the members of the party.

It said its door was open to anyone who has intention to vie for election on the platform of the party.

The APGA chairman in the state, Reverend Augustine Ehiemere gave the assurance while addressing leaders, stakeholders and seventeen local government chairmen of the party in Abia state at the party’s secretariat in Umuahia, the state capital on Wednesday.

He assured them that APGA would conduct primaries at all level, reassuring that there would not be any imposition of candidates on the members of the party in the state.

Ehiemere said, “Nobody should be afraid of anything. The party will conduct free and fair primaries at all levels of elective positions.

“We are not known for encouraging impunity. We will go for primaries. There will be no imposition of candidates on party members”.

The APGA chairman frowned at the attitude of some aspirants who would win election on the APGA platform and dumped the party for another political party, warning that the state leadership of the APGA will not tolerate such action again.

He said that APGA would field credible and acceptable candidates in all elective positions in the forthcoming 2019 election and advised members to remain steadfast and work collectively for the victory of the party in Abia State.

In their separate speeches, a senatorial aspirant on the platform of APGA, Mr. Chidi Ajaegbu, Dr. Max Nduaguibe and Honorable Chijioke Nwachukwu, member representing Umuahia south constituency in the Abia House of Assembly, stressed the need for all leaders and members APGA to work hard for the success of the party in the 2019 general election in Abia state.

They vowed to deliver Abia to APGA in the forthcoming election and lamented the developmental backwardness of the state, which they attributed to PDP’s alleged bad leadership in the state.

The leader of the party in Abia state and the 2015 governorship candidate of the party, Dr. Alex Otti was absent at the meeting.
